Sara’s passion for dance was discovered at a young age when dancing at home for her grandmother. Born and raised in St. Louis, Sara studied ballet, jazz and tap throughout her school years. She remembers looking forward to the classes, the music and practice. As a result of her interest in movement and the empowerment it brings, she started yoga classes in college. Since then she has practiced yoga.
She moved to Boston in June 2006 for her career in advertising. Shortly after her move she had several synchronistic experiences that lead her to search for a bellydance teacher.
It was time to make new connections after having left St. Louis. Tribal style caught her attention immediately! She did not know much about it other than the mesmerizing and meditative effect it brought both to the dancer and audience. This is what triggered her serious quest for teachers and workshops to learn the secrets of the dance. She is grateful to have had the opportunities to learn from many of the most sought after performers from California.
American Tribal Style created by Carolena Nericcio has continued to be Sara's passion in her dance journey. In July of 2009 she was able to study with Carolena and Megha Gavin in their General Skills Intensive. That experience further committed her to ATS and she hopes to do the Teacher Training Session in the next year. Sara hopes to share this art through performances and teaching when the time comes. One of her favorite quotes from Marie-Louise Von Franz in Alchemy: an introduction to the symbolism and the psychology is when the medicine man says: “Your experience has not been given to you only, you owe it to your tribe.”
While performing with OmBellyCo, Sara has experienced the connection and healing in dancing with other women. She feels each dance is a dive into the loving arms of the Goddess and hopes women all over are able to taste the bellydance nectar!
